Day 1: Food to live by

This morning I woke up too early. And it was all Oscar’s fault.

I know, I know, he’s a cutie. But I don’t really see cute at 6:30 in the morning. I see a bleary figure with dog breath. But it just so happens, having an extra hour in the morning isn’t all bad. Instead of my usual bowl of cereal I had time to try out this delicious smoothie courtesy of Joy the Baker.

And, what do you know, the sun came out! Sun. In February. In Ohio.

But wait. It gets better. I discovered making a smoothie for breakfast only takes approximately nine and a half minutes longer than having a bowl of cereal. So naturally, I decided to use the extra time to whip up a batch of the best chocolate chip cookies. Naturally.

Ah, butter and brown sugar. The start of a beautiful morning.

After mixing up this dough (which I could eat by the spoonfuls) I scooped it into a big ‘ol tub, put it in the freezer, and headed off to work.

Lunchtime for me usually means leftovers. Which is not a bad thing at all when it’s leftovers of this savory dish from Love and Olive Oil

It’s the perfect shot of protein to keep you from experiencing baby neck all afternoon. (note: Baby neck is an extremely awkward medical condition which causes sleep deprived individuals to momentarily lose control of the muscles which hold their head in place on top of the shoulders.)

After making it through an afternoon at my desk (I love my job, but HATE afternoons at the desk), I headed home. By this time all the energy from that spinach smoothie was long gone, which meant dinner need to be simple and quick. This Southwest Omelet from Cooking Light fit the bill perfectly.

And then comes my favorite part of the day: dessert. Luckily we had some leftovers of this unbelievable Honey Vanilla Pound Cake from Brown Eyed Baker

Yes, I like to wrap bowls of pound cake in fuzzy, aqua blankets. Believe me, this cake deserves to be coddled.

And there you have it. A glimpse into my world and the types of recipes you’ll find here on my food blog. Tomorrow, we’ll do it all over again. Bake. Eat. Repeat.

  2. Hey mom! I forgot I haven’t posted the recipe yet. I’ll try to post it on here soon. I’ll send you the link in the meantime. I think you can make it gluten free and it’s delicious!
