Nutella Swirled Chocolate Chip Cookies
Nutella Swirled Chocolate Chip Cookies are chewy and chock full of melty chocolate. They’re a new favorite!
I’ve gotten into a bad habit recently of never putting away our clean clothes. I find when it comes to laundry, my motivation decreases at each step. It goes like this:
Collecting and separating the laundry? BRING IT ON! I’m going to finish ALL the laundry before noon!
Throwing a load into the wash? I love deee bubbles! (That’s my best Sebastian voice).
Transferring clean laundry to the dryer? Well, this is a pain, but I suppose I can stop reading blogs for 30 seconds to do it.
Folding the laundry? Ugh, is that stuff really dry already? Maybe I should fluff it again. *Four hours pass.* Oh, this definitely needs to be fluffed. *2 more hours pass.* Okay, okay, I guess I can fold while watching The Bachelor.
Putting away the laundry? Not. Gonna. Happen.
It’s a bad habit, I know. Kind of like watching The Bachelor and never changing out of my yoga pants, buuuuut that’s another story for another day.
One good habit I’ve gotten into is baking lots of double batches of chocolate chip cookies. I always make a double batch when I bake cookies. I usually make a dozen or two for an event, then scoop and freeze the rest. We’ll pop a few in the oven at a time if we want a little dessert or if we have unexpected company over.
With all the chocolate chip cookies around, I’ve also been doing a lot of experimenting. I’ve salted, stuffed, and topped my cookies with everything from Snickers bars to potato chips.
But the experimentation that has gotten a permanent spot in our favorite-cookies-of-all-time rotation are these Nutella Swirled Chocolate Chip Cookies.
There’s really nothing more complicated here than making your favorite chocolate chip cookies recipe and adding Nutella. Genius stuff, I know.
All I did is scoop out small portions of dough, make a thumbprint in the center, add nutella, then scoop another small portion of dough on top. The nutella bakes into a lovely swirl between the two layers of cookies and adds another level of smooth chocolately goodness to the centers.
We liked these so much, I had to make them 3 times before I was able to snag a picture. It’s everything you love about chewy chocolate chip cookies PLUS Nutella. This is next level stuff baby.
With all the chocolate chip cookie baking happening, I am still learning the tricks for getting them just right. A few observations:
- The longer the dough rests in the fridge, the better the cookie. I’m talking daaaaays here. After 4 days in the fridge, these cookies are almost caramely. LOVE.
- Chopping your own chocolate from a bar makes for meltier, surprise chunks of chocolate in every bite. It’s worth the extra work.
- Underbake, underbake, underbake. I always take my cookies out while they’re still a little soft in the center then let them set up on the baking sheet. Not only are they wonderfully gooey that way, but they also stay soft much longer.
That’s it for now! I hope you’ll add a little chocolate hazelnut love to your next batch of chocolate chip cookies. Oh, and if anyone knows of someone I can hire to put away my laundry, send them my way. I’ll pay them in cookies. It’s a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

These weren’t as good as I had hoped. I think I’ll have to try them again but with my go to chocolate chip cookies recipe since this one is nothing special.
Same here…I had my doubts about the quantities (there was too much flour and too little butter) listed in the recipe, but made it exactly as written. They didn’t flatten on the cookie sheet and were very dry. I’d recommend decreasing the total flour to 2 cups and increasing the butter to 1 cup.
A great idea, though, and I’m looking forward to playing around with the recipe again to make it work for me.
I hate every aspect of doing laundry. And no, it never gets put away. I have a “clean” hamper and a “dirty hamper. Don’t judge! These cookies look insane. Like, I need to make them… tonight.
No judging here. I actually ran out of laundry baskets recently because I had unfolded clean clothes in all of them. So bad.
Ugh. Laundry and I are longtime enemies. I have five sons. Enough said, right? But these cookies? Yessssss. Not only would I love to avoid laundry by MAKING them, I’d LOVE to avoid laundry by EATING them!
Oy. I have actually thought to myself that I’ll never be able to make it once we have kids. I’m certain I’ll have to pick up a second job just so I can hire someone to do the laundry. ๐
I have the exact same problem with laundry. I always start with such good intentions. Love these cookies, I am obsessed with Nutella!
So glad I’m not the only one!
We are the same person, Courtney. I say this in all your posts but its true. Your laundry thought process is EXACTLY the same as mine. I laughed when you said moving the laundry from the washer to the dryer is a pain but you can spare 30 seconds to do it. I ALWAYS moan ‘n groan when I have to do it. Then I just leave the dried clothes in the dryer all week until the next laundry day, when I simply dump the clean clothes into a hamper and leave THAT for a week. Sigh. Why can’t there be less laundry and more of these nutella swirl CCCs? You’re BRILLIANT for coming up with these. Love love love them!
This week has been particularly bad. I’ve actually run out of laundry baskets to use for clean laundry because I have yet to put away the ones that are already folded. And because of that, I have a load of clean laundry that’s been hanging out in the dryer for 4 days. Oops. *timetofluffagain*
I feel like I just read a summary of my very own thought process when it comes to laundry. We are literally the same person.
I am so glad I’m not the only one who does this.
Oh my! I need to make these cookies ASAP!
You had me a Nutella, now if you’ll excuse me I have to go pre-heat my oven.
Girl, you are WAY better about the laundry than I am! Usually we let it sit, dry, in the hamper until it’s time to do the laundry again! It’s pretty shameful.
These cookies. Want. Need. Must have.
Ooooooh my gosh these look so good Courtney. I’ve stayed up late enough tonight that dinner was like ages ago and I need these cookies NOW!! Have you tried freezing the bottom half once you put the nutella on? so that it doesn’t swirl? I mean, the swirl looks amazing, duh, but I also think it would taste good in one little pocket. Either way you can’t go wrong, it’s nutella. Oh, and don’t even get me STARTED on putting away laundry. I always start watching TV “while I fold” and then when I go to bed I still have great big piles everywhere. So bad!!
Pocket of nutella for the win! I haven’t tried freezing the bottoms, but that sounds pretty awesome. Well, freezing the bottoms of cookies that is…freezing bottoms in general are not ideal.
I’m guilty of just tossing stuff on my drying rack. It stays there until 2 weeks later when it’s laundry day again. I don’t even think the promise of these cookies would get me to move the laundry (I’d just take the cookie and run).
fabulous and mouthwatering!
Um, for real, I am SO samesies when it comes to laundry. Priorities. Like how I realllly want to ignore my enormous to-do list today and just make these cookies. ๐
Thank you! I mean, if it’s putting away laundry or reading my new Bon Appetit magazine, reading is going to win every time. Priorities indeed.
I also hate folding and putting away laundry. . I’ll sometimes have 3 baskets full of clothes just sitting around. . so bad. . esp b/c it’s not just my clothes but my kids’ clothes too! ๐ ok, can I just say that I so so bummed my dvr didn’t record the Tuesday night special Bachelor episode! I wanted to see Ally go off on JP. ๐ anywhoo. I digress. . these cookies look freaking amazing. . I just bought a new container of Nutella so need to have these in my life ASAP. yum!
You have got to try to find a clip of Andi’s “talk” with JP somewhere. It was awesome. And he was completely clueless, of course. Plan of action-make cookies, watch Bachelor, never put away laundry. ๐
