Do you plan your meals for the week or fly by the seat of your pants? I’m usually 50/50, planning about 3 meals a week, then relying on leftovers, brinner, standbys like tacos and spaghetti, and takeout for the rest. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s what works for us during this season of life.

This Chicken Tortilla Soup made the list of three this week! Cbus friends—if you’re missing Max and Erma’s, this soup is a copy cat of their amazing tortilla soup!

So you think you know what it means to cream butter and sugar, or what room temperature butter looks like, but do you really? I used to stop beating together the butter and sugar WAY too soon, when it was still dark and dense. Keep on going to get that light, fluffy buttery base for all of your baked goods!

P.S. New bundt cake recipe is on the blog!

We’ve had the incredible opportunity to visit several beef farms over the past six years, and learn from farmers, educators, chefs, and agricultural experts about beef farming and cooking here in Ohio. Over those years, I have asked SO MANY QUESTIONS. Most of us are pretty far removed from the places and people who raise and produce our food, and it’s normal to feel intimidated or unsure about it all. I’m not an expert, but I’ve learned from a lot of experts. If you have questions about beef farming or cooking, I’d love to help answer them or point you to a person who can.

Thanks to @thejuntohotel for hosting us, and @ohiobeef, @littlewesttavern_ , and @darianlbrooks2 for sharing your passion and knowledge with us!

October is a complicated month for me. It’s the month my dad died, and the month I miscarried our first baby. It’s also a month that includes so many things I love–my youngest’s birthday, baking and fall festivals, Halloween costumes and Anne of Green Gables quotes, and so much natural beauty it almost hurts. I took some time to revisit some October memories and let myself hold space for all of it. It took some of the sting out of this month and reminded me it’s just like the rest of life–a confounding mix of joy and wonder, silliness and sadness, loss and abundance.
