Grilled Cheese in the Oven

Baked grilled cheese in the oven is a super easy, mess free meal that can be scaled up or down depending on how many people you need to feed! Have everyone customize their sandwich with their favorite cheeses for the easiest party or dinner idea.

Ingredients
 

  • 8 Tablespoons 1 stick salted butter, at room temperature
  • 8 slices bread* see note
  • 8 slices cheese of your choice *see note

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line a half sheet pan with foil.
  • Spread softened butter on the outside of the slices of bread, all the way to the edges.
  • Add two slices of cheese, making sure the bread is fully covered, and sandwich together.
  • Bake for 5-6 minutes, flip, then bake an additional 5-6 minutes, or until grilled cheese is golden brown on both sides.

Notes

  • We recommend French or Sourdough bread, but a regular white bread or honey wheat also works.
  • Some of our favorite cheese combos include cheddar and havarti, Swiss and Monterey Jack, and Pepper Jack and white cheddar.
  • If you're using a heartier, crusty bread that's sliced thick, you may need to leave the sandwiches in the oven for a few extra minutes.
