This classic Stockyard Pony Cocktail combine bourbon, Campari, lemon juice, and simple syrup for a warming citrus cocktail that's perfect any time of year.
Place sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Heat mixture until sugar is completely dissolved. Allow syrup to cool. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
For the cocktails:
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add bourbon, Campari, simple syrup, bitters and lemon juice. Replace lid and shake until chilled. Strain into an ice filled glass and garnish with flamed orange peel.
Notes
The syrup will keep in a jar in the fridge for a couple weeks.
