Quick and Easy Breakfast Banana Splits

Three bowls of different breakfast banana splits with yogurt and toppings.

When I wake up in the morning, my first thought is breakfast. I know some people can grab a cup of coffee and fly out the door. I am not one of those people.

I wake up hungry, which means I very rarely want to spend much time preparing breakfast. If it takes longer than 20 minutes, Iโ€™m going to have the hangries, and no one likes a hangry Courtney.

But after a while, cereal and milk gets a little boring, and I donโ€™t always have the foresight to make Overnight Oats or Chia Pudding with Fruit.

So what do I do when I need a healthy breakfast in a hurry? I make a Breakfast Banana Split.

Made with a banana, yogurt, and whatever toppings suit your fancy, these banana splits are a powerhouse of protein, healthy fats, and carbs. Plus, they look great and taste even better. Itโ€™s a surefire way to win your morning.

What Youโ€™ll Need to Make a Banana Split

Bowls of yogurt, bananas, blueberries, apples, cinnamon, almonds, granola, and honey arranged on a wooden board.
  • Bananas- You just need one banana for each banana split. This recipe works best with just barely green or slightly speckled bananas. Save the soft, brown bananas for Sour Cream Banana Bread!
  • Yogurt- I like to use a whole milk Greek yogurt for a satisfying amount of protein and fat, but you can use whatever kinds of yogurt (flavored or unflavored) you prefer.
  • Granola- Granola is a must for some crispy crunch! Iโ€™m very fond of this Nature’s Path Gluten Free Coconut Granola right now, but any kind of granola will work just fine.
  • Fruits- We love to add more fruit on top of our banana splits. Fresh berries, diced apples, mango, and pineapple, are all delicious options.
  • Nuts and Seeds- This is totally optional, but a sprinkling of diced pecans, almonds, or peanuts, chia or flax seeds adds another lovely layer of texture. You can also add a scoop of nut butter!
  • Sweets and Spice– Depending on the sweetness of your yogurt and your personal preferences, you might want to add a drizzle of maple syrup, honey, or vanilla syrup to your bowl. In the fall and winter, we love to add a sprinkle of cinnamon as well!
