Leftovers: April 2015 Edition

My goodness. Another month has disappeared before my eyes. Where is the time going? And why do beautiful, sunny days seem to go so much faster than dreary, rainy ones? And why aren’t all jeans made like maternity jeans? I never want to see another zipper in my life. Stretchy waistbands FOREVER!

Here we are on the cusp of summer. This is one of my favorite times of year. The one positive to having horrendously long, cold, gray winters? You really appreciate spring! I’ve been relishing every sunny day we get, marveling at how green everything is, and enjoying the smell of trees in blossom, even if they do make my nose tickle and send me into sneezing fits. #worthit

This month was full of good things, but gosh darn it if I can remember any of them. I know we went on some dates (look for some Love the Locals posts soon!), celebrated a few birthdays, and watched my belly pop out like there was something growing inside there. Oh wait…

Seriously though, this pregnancy stuff is crazy, wonderful, scary, bizarre, exciting, and just downright neat. I’ve dealt with my fair share of anxiety, but I am so thankful I have been feeling good, our baby boy and I are both healthy, and other than a growing middle section, my pregnancy symptoms have been pretty minimal since the start of the second trimester. Okay, okay, maybe I do get an irresistible desire for a Rally’s swirl waffle cone at 10:30 PM, but, let’s be honest, that happened sometimes before I was pregnant. Real talk.

26 Week Baby Bump!

For all of you bump watchers, here’s a little peek at 26 weeks! This trimester is fuh-lying by, which is both thrilling and terrifying. I’m so excited to meet our little man, but it feels like we have SO MUCH TO DO in the meantime.

There’s been some progress on the nursery. If you want to see where I’m getting my inspiration, you can check out my Baby Pinterest Board here. We painted the walls a nice cozy gray and the ceiling a bright sky blue. We’re going with a loosely interpreted adventure theme. I managed to score the sweetest old map that I’ll hang up on the wall, and I plan to have at least one space dedicated to books. Seriously, I’ve bought more books than clothes. This kid might be naked, but he’ll be well read.

I’ve been finding a few snippets of time to read myself, and ended up picking up Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand a few weeks ago. It’s not a “can’t put down” book, but it’s been perfect for picking up and reading bit by bit whenever I get the chance. The story is driven by Major Pettigrew, a widowed British gentleman with a fantastically sarcastic sense of humor and a taste for poetry, the simple life, and tradition. He is one of the most charming characters I’ve ever read. It’s impossible not to love him, and, therefore the story.

If you read nothing else from this post, READ THIS ARTICLE called Why Ferguson, Why Baltimore? I wanted to stand up and slow clap as soon as I finished it. He said everything I’d been thinking, but was just 1000x better at it.

Here are some other favorite reads from my fellow food bloggers. You’ll see lots of berries and lemon and COLOR. Can I get an amen?? (And also maybe an “it’s about time??):

Blueberry Vanilla Hand Pies from Eats Well With Others

Lemon and Thyme Sweet Cornmeal Loaf from Hungry Couple

Loaded Greek Fries from Healthy Delicious

Mandarin Orange Chicken Salad from Melanie Makes

Orange Bundt Cake with Blackberry Frosting from Foxes Love Lemons

  1. Awe, thanks for including my recipe. ๐Ÿ™‚ You look so incredibly cute with that baby bump!

  2. You are so adorable. Doesn’t it just zoom by? Also, completely agreed on the stretchy pants thing — it’s why I wear leggings and yoga pants basically alldayeveryday now.
