Red, White, and Blue Berry Angel Food Cake Parfaits
These Red, White, and Blue Berry Angel Food Cake Parfaits are a great dessert to whip up before your Fourth of July celebrations.
“All I want to do is eat berries and Cool Whip and angel food cake all summer long.”
–Direct quote from the Mr. as he gobbled down these parfaits with a glint in his eye and a teensy dollop of whipped cream on his upper lip.
You know? I have to agree with him on this one. Summer is made for this. When berries are this juicy and sweet it’s almost a crime to dress them up with anything more than a dollop of whipped cream and bit of fluffy-as-air angel food cake.
Occasionally a recipe is so easy I’m almost embarrassed to share it with you. And if I’m honest, this isn’t even really a recipe per se. It’s more of an idea. You can take it and run with it. Shoot for the moon! Touch the stars! Be all that you can be! Let your creativity shine! Just thought maybe you could use a little pep talk today. Feeling ready to take on the world? I thought so.
So here’s this “idea.” You rip up some angel food cake (I used store bought) into bite-sized pieces then layer them in a glass with fresh berries and whipped cream or Cool Whip. You can mix these up however you like. Use pound cake instead of food cake, swap out Cool Whip for fresh whipped cream, heck, you can even drizzle this with chocolate if you want. Of course, you’ll want to keep the red, white, and blue layers if you’re using this for a Fourth of July party, but you can enjoy this throughout the season with any of your favorite fruits and berries. I can’t wait to try it with peaches and sweet cherries.
Can I be honest with you? I didn’t even include ingredient amounts for this recipe. How’s that for slacking off? Really though, the amount of berries and cream you’ll need all depends on the size of your cup or trifle bowl or whatever other fascinating vessel you decide to serve this in. Don’t stress over getting the perfect ratio of cream to berries. Any ratio will be delicious, I promise.
These parfaits keep well in the fridge for a day or two, so it’s a great dish to whip up before your Fourth of July celebrations so you can spend the day doing what really matters– eating burgers and chillaxin on the back deck. You can make these in individual parfaits like I did, or use a large trifle bowl to feed a crowd.

This was the perfect dessert after a company meal. Nice and light. Subbed in Lite Cool Whip because we are all dieting. Couldn’t find sugar-free angel food cake this time but it would be great in here.
I’m so glad everyone liked it! It’s nice not to end a meal with another heavy dessert, especially in the summer!
Such light, healthy, and delicious looking parfaits! I love parfaits! These are beautiful.
Haha, I totally feel your pain. Sometimes when I share parfaits, I think to myself “this is just layering stuff into a glass, it’s almost embarrassing to share.” But you know what? They’re beautiful, and people love them BECAUSE they are simple but impressive! No 4th get-together would be complete without something like this.
Exactly. And ya know? Most people aren’t doing this for a living, so I feel like the occasional “throw it in a glass with some Cool Whip” is appreciated.
Very festive! Beautiful!
What a gorgeous dessert, perfect for the 4th!
Your parfaits are so pretty! The Mr. sounds like a wise man. I would happily eat this all summer long!

Agreed! They’re usually pretty easy to throw together but they just look so impressive. 🙂
Wonderful! I’m going to do your peaches and cherries idea, and flavor the whipping cream with almond. Mmmm….
That sounds divine Dorothy!
There’s something about Cool Whip that is timeless! I remember eatings spoonfulls with fruit as a kid! This is such a wonderful and simple dessert for the 4th!
Me too! Glad I’m not the only one who still hasn’t outgrown my childhood love. 🙂
