Ritz Cracker Party Sandwiches

Who doesn’t love a great party slider? These meaty, cheesy handheld sammies are the perfect addition to game day spreads casual gatherings. We have long been a fan of these Hawaiian Roll Ham and Swiss Sliders, but the last time I made them, I couldn’t help wondering what they’d be like if we swapped the rolls for Ritz crackers.

Turns out, they’re pretty darn great. This is everything we love about a classic ham and cheese slider, but with the irresistible crumbly-crisp texture of Ritz crackers. These sandwiches are somehow both soft and crisp, and even butterier than their roll-based counterparts.

I top them with a sweet and tangy honey mustard glaze, plus a good sprinkling of Everything Bagel Seasoning. We went with a classic ham and Swiss for the filling, but you could use any combination of deli meat and cheeses, or even leftover pulled pork!

These quick and easy Ritz sandwiches are a great recipe to have in your back pocket for entertaining. They can be ready to serve in less than 30 minutes! Enjoy!

Key Ingredients

Ritz crackers, apple cider vinegar, dijon mustard, melted butter, cheese, ham, garlic powder, everything bagel seasoning.
  • Ritz crackers– Nothing beats classic buttery Ritz crackers, but you can also use an off-brand or substitute a gluten free cracker if needed.
  • Ham– I used very thinly sliced deli ham, but you can use thicker ham as well. Just cut each piece into squares the size of the cracker. I recommend honey ham or black forest ham.
  • Cheese– We tested these with both Swiss cheese and cheddar cheese and loved them both. Provolone would also be a good option.
  • Butter– I prefer salted butter for these, but you can absolutely used unsalted. Just add some salt to taste.
  • Dijon mustard + Apple Cider Vinegar– This gives the sandwiches a delicious mustardy tang.
  • Honey– A touch of sweetness keeps everyone coming back for more!
  • Garlic powder– Always a good flavor booster.
  • Everything Bagel Seasoning– This mix of poppy seeds, dried onion, sesame seeds, dried garlic, and salt is the perfect pop of flavor, color, and texture on top of the sandwiches.

How to Make Ritz Cracker Sandwiches

Step 1: Assemble the sandwiches. Line up half the crackers on a baking sheet and top with a cheese square and slice of ham. Sandwich with the rest of the crackers.

Step 3: Bake. Bake the mixture at 350 degrees until the cheese is melty and the crackers are starting to brown.

Serving and Make-Ahead Instructions

  • For the best texture, I recommend baking the sandwiches as soon as they’re assembled.
  • The butter mixture can be whisked together up to 24 hours in advance and stored in the fridge. Just microwave it before pouring it on the crackers.
  • Ritz sandwiches taste amazing fresh from the oven, but are also quite good at room temperature.

Ingredients

  • 48 Ritz crackers
  • 24 thin slices of ham
  • 6 slices Swiss or sharp cheddar cheese (cut in fourths)
  • 4 Tablespoons salted butter
  • 2 teaspoons dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon everything bagel seasoning

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
  • Place 24 of the Ritz crackers on the baking sheet. Top each one with a slice of ham and cheese, then sandwich with another cracker.
  • In a small bowl, melt the butter in the microwave for 30-45 seconds. Whisk in the dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, honey, and garlic powder. Brush the butter mixture over top of the crackers. Sprinkle with the bagel seasoning.
  • Bake uncovered for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melty and the edges of the crackers are browned. Serve immediately or at room temperature.

Notes

  • If you’re using thicker slices of ham, use a knife to cut it into fourths for the sandwiches. The thin slices can simply be folded up on the crackers.
  • Both Swiss and cheddar cheese work really well here. Use either one or split it half and half.
  • Sub deli turkey for the ham, if you prefer.
  • If using unsalted butter, add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the butter mixture.
