My dad has been whipping up his famous Blender Eggnog every Christmas for as long as I can remember. When I was little, he’d set aside a cup of eggnog without alcohol for me to sip along with the adults.
Now, I’m happy to partake in the spiked version, with all of its boozy, rich, creamy goodness.
Eggnog seems to be one of those love or hate it kinds of drinks, and I hope today I can bring some of you haters into the “love it” camp.
The truth is, I understand the hate. The first time I tried store bought eggnog (which was well into adulthood), I wasn’t a fan. It was way too thick, very sweet, and lacked flavor. It hardly seemed worth the calories.
But this eggnog? This eggnog with warm bourbon and subtle hints of vanilla? This eggnog is worth every.single.calorie.

Why This is The Best Eggnog with Bourbon
This blender eggnog is different from other eggnog recipes in a few key ways:
- It’s not cooked. Yes, that means we’re using raw eggs. No, I don’t worry about getting sick from drinking it (more on that later!).
- It’s made without heavy cream. Most eggnog recipes call for a blend of cream and milk, but dad’s version (and the version I prefer) is made with just whole milk. It’s still super creamy, but it’s also very smooth, and doesn’t coat your throat the way some eggnogs do. Of course, if you prefer a thicker texture, you can always substitute some of the milk for cream.
- It’s spiked with bourbon. Eggnog can be made with all different kinds of spirits, including brandy, rum, or whiskey, but I am partial to bourbon. It’s warm, rich, and smooth, and it cuts the sweetness perfectly.
How to Make Blender Eggnog
- Place the eggs in a blender and, as my dad says, “beat the heck out of them.”
- Add the sugar and blend again.
- Add the milk, vanilla extract, and bourbon, and blend a final time. Chill for at least an hour before serving, but preferably overnight. The flavor gets better as it sits!
How to Serve Bourbon Eggnog
If you love frothy eggnog, be sure to give it another spin in the blender before serving.
Otherwise, I find this eggnog is perfect with a dollop of whipped cream on top.
I also love adding some freshly grated nutmeg on top. The scent of it as you take the first sip is heavenly. You can use a microplane grater to grate nutmeg, but I was gifted this nutmeg grinder a few years ago, and it’s a super fun (and fancy) gadget to get out around the holidays.
Is it Safe to Drink Eggnog with Raw Eggs?
Let’s talk about raw eggs for a sec. I realize the idea of an uncooked eggnog might worry some of you. The risk of getting sick from eating raw eggs in the U.S. is very low, but here are some things you can do to lower or completely eliminate any risk.
- Buy the freshest eggs you can find.
- Wash the shells before cracking them.
- Buy pasteurized eggs- Pasteurized eggs are eggs that are heated in order to kill pathogens. While some companies make pasteurized whole eggs, they can be difficult to find. You can easily substitute pasteurized egg product (the blended kind found in a carton), which can be found in almost any grocery store.

How long does eggnog keep?
Eggnog will keep for up to a week in an airtight container in the fridge. I find it actually gets better as it sits!
More Holiday Drinks
- 4 whole large eggs (or 1 cup pasteurized egg product)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup bourbon (optional)
- Grated nutmeg, for serving
- Whipped cream, for serving (optional)
- Place the eggs in the blender and blend on high speed for about a minute.
- Add the sugar and blend again, about 30 seconds.
- Add the milk, vanilla, and bourbon, and blend on medium speed a final time, until well combined.
- Transfer the drink to an airtight container and store in the fridge. The drink should chill for at least an hour, but will taste better if chilled overnight. Eggnog should keep for 5-6 days in the fridge.
- To serve, top with whipped cream and freshly grated nutmeg. If you prefer a frothier drink, blend the mixture on high speed for 1 minute before serving.
